About
Honoring the Legacy of Women Who Served
For generations, women have stepped forward in defense of our nation—serving with strength, resilience, and sacrifice in every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces. Yet too often, their stories go untold and their service unrecognized.
The Women in Military Service Memorial at the West Los Angeles VA Campus/LA National Cemetery seeks to change that. This long-overdue monument will stand as a lasting tribute to the diverse women—past, present, and future—who have worn the uniform with honor. It will depict servicewomen from every era and conflict, reminding our community and future generations that women, too, have always answered the call.
Why This Matters
Women veterans are the fastest-growing veteran population in Los Angeles County, yet many feel invisible in traditional commemorations of military service. This memorial is not just about stone and bronze—it is about dignity, representation, and gratitude. It is about creating a sacred space where all women who served are seen, valued, and remembered. Less than 2% of veteran memorials in the U.S. recognize women. This is not just a women’s issue. This is an American history issue. We invite you to be part of setting that history straight.
Community Support Makes This Possible
We are proud to share that American Legion Newport Beach was the first to step up and contribute funding to this important project. Their early support reflects the power of community leadership and the importance of honoring women veterans in a visible and permanent way.
But we can't do this alone. We invite individuals, organizations, and fellow veterans to join this effort—through advocacy, fundraising, and sharing this mission widely.
